In the broader context of the alien force, the Frigate sits above the common Grunts, Spitters, and Bats in the hierarchy of threats. It is not the final Alien Queen, but it is a tactical anchor for a wave—its slow, predictable hover pattern gives it a commanding view of the battlefield, and its fire can pin the player in place long enough for the infantry to overwhelm them.

The sky over the canyon split open with a low, resonant hum. Sam felt it in his teeth before he saw it: a shadow, vast and flat, sliding in from behind the ridge. The Frigate crested the lip of the canyon and settled into a lazy hover, its underside pulsing a sickly green. Grunts below stopped their advance, as if waiting for the order. The order came as a beam of searing light that carved a trench into the dirt ten meters to Sam's left. He rolled, brought the shotgun up, and fired into the glowing belly. The Frigate shuddered, drifted a few meters sideways, and the hum deepened. Around it, the swarm surged forward again, and the sky went quiet except for the crackle of alien fire.
