Serious Engine 4 (SE4) is the proprietary game engine developed in-house by Croatian studio Croteam to power the Serious Sam franchise. It debuted with Serious Sam 3: BFE in 2011 and went on to drive Serious Sam 4 (2020), serving as the technical backbone for the series' signature large-scale, destructible arena combat.

The engine is notable for its emphasis on massive open arenas, fully destructible environments, and high enemy counts, all while maintaining the fast-paced, twin-stick shooter feel that defines the series. As a proprietary tool, it gave Croteam full control over rendering, physics, and level design without dependency on third-party middleware.
