Boss Fights

Face giant monkeys, giant bees, and a dragon to claim the pieces of the Medallion of Power.

Boss Fights

Serious Sam II features boss fights at the end of each of its seven thematic worlds. These encounters pit Sam "Serious" Stone against a singular, powerful enemy that guards a piece of the Medallion of Power. Unlike the standard horde combat, these battles serve as the climax of each world's story, requiring the player to focus their expanded arsenal on a single high-threat target.

Lore & Background

In Serious Sam II, the alien overlord Mental has each of the five pieces of the Medallion of Power guarded by his forces across five planets. The final level of each world features a boss that the player must defeat to retrieve that world's piece. On the planet of M'Digbo, the giant monkey Kwongo took the piece from the Simbas. On Magnor, the giant bee Zumzum steals the piece from the Zixie village before Sam can reach it. On Chi-Fang, Prince Chan has swallowed the third piece. On Kleer, the evil wizard Kleerofski holds the fourth piece. On Ellenier, Cecil the Dragon has taken the final piece from the Elvians. After collecting all five pieces, Sam heads to Kronos, a small moon orbiting Sirius, where he uses the galaxy's most powerful laser cannon to damage the shield around Sirius. In the city of Siriusopolis, he is captured by Mental's forces and put through a series of televised arena battles before being rescued. Sam battles his way to Mental's residence, the Mental Institution, and blindly fires at Mental therein, only to discover he has shot a speaker.

In Their Own Story

Sam arrives in M'Keke Village on M'Digbo, where the village chief informs him that Kwongo, a giant monkey, had taken their piece. Sam frees the village shaman from Kukulele Prison in the nearby city of Ursul, who summons Kwongo for Sam to defeat. On Magnor, after being freed from capture by a Zixie, Sam reaches their village only for Mental's forces to discover it. Zumzum, a giant bee, steals the piece before Sam can reach it. He follows Zumzum into the Land of Giants and kills it to retrieve the second piece. On Chi-Fang, Sam hunts Prince Chan, who terrorizes and regularly eats the local ChiChe population and has swallowed the third piece. Sam finds Prince Chan at his temple and murders him to obtain it. On Kleer, Sam acquires the fourth piece by killing the evil wizard Kleerofski. On Ellenier, Sam treks to Kingsburg, through the sewers, and into the Castle of Rock to confront the Elvian king about Cecil the Dragon's location. As he arrives, Cecil kidnaps Princess Olga from her wedding. The king demands Sam follow the dragon and rescue her. Sam finds the dragon willing to return the princess, as both find her unsightly. Sam defeats Cecil in the ensuing fight, but offers to return the princess in exchange for the fifth piece, to which he reluctantly agrees.

Reader's Guide

Each boss fight in Serious Sam II is the final level of its respective world. The player must use their full arsenal, including weapons like the rocket launcher, sniper rifle, and the Clawdovic bird that homes in on enemies. The Serious Bomb, found rarely, defeats every enemy in a certain radius and can be useful in these encounters. Vehicles are available in some levels, such as the weaponed dinosaur and hovercraft, which have unlimited ammunition. The spike-equipped rollerball allows the player to inflict damage on enemies they crash into. The game features five difficulty levels, peaking at "Serious" difficulty. The Xbox version includes an aim assist. These boss fights are set pieces that conclude the narrative of each world, requiring the player to manage their ammunition and health while focusing fire on a single powerful enemy.
